Lynda Dawson is a registered Music Together (R)
teacher and Root Songs center director, providing music experiences
for families and communities. In addition, she is the lead singer,
songwriter and guitar player with Raleigh-based bluegrass and Americana outfit,
the Kickin Grass Band. She also dabbles on the clawhammer banjo in
her kitchen, and has been working on a family album of original and traditional
songs for kids with her new project, Little Root. Coming from a traditional
music background, where songs are passed down communally from generation to
generation, Lynda was drawn to the Music Together philosophy that making music
is our birthright and that all children are musical. Of course! Her 13-month
old daughter Claire inspired her to focus her time and energy on music and
families, and she can’t think of a better way to spend her days than creating
and facilitating participatory music experiences with the young and the young
at heart.
